Mark Trumbo hit in the seven hole during Friday's contest against the Tigers. It marked the first time he'd hit there since May 4.
Trumbo is batting .177 over his last 33 games to drop his average from .306 to .271. He's also homered just three times in his last 40 games.
"Mark is hitting a rough patch, but he is still a threat. Right now, we are looking for some balance," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Howie [Kendrick] and Erick [Aybar] are swinging well. This will allow Mark to relax and not feel the need to protect Albert [Pujols] and Kendrys [Morales] and just let him swing the bat. We need him and our goal is to get him back in the groove."
