Former Major Leaguer Rene Reyes got the Tigres going in the second with an RBI single and Dodgers farmhand Luis Maza kept the inning going by reaching on an error by third baseman Luis Gonzalez. Tolbert followed with his first postseason homer.
Caracas, which owned the best record in the regular season and the round-robin playoffs, climbed within 4-2, but Maza delivered a two-run single in the eighth. Pirates Minor Leaguer Hector Gimenez capped the Tigres' scoring with an RBI double in the ninth.
Minor League veteran Victor Moreno was credited with his third postseason win after tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Pitching on two days' rest, Aragua starter Jeff Farnsworth cruised through two perfect frames.
