ST. LOUIS, Mo, September 4, 2012 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have added three additional players to the Major League roster, promoting right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller (#40), outfielder Adron Chambers (#56) and infielder Ryan Jackson (#8) from Memphis (AAA).
Miller, 21, was the Cardinals 1st round draft pick (19th overall) in 2009 out of Brownwood (Texas) High School and his first game appearance will mark his Major League debut. Chambers, 25, appeared in 23 games for the Cardinals earlier this season, batting .250 (9-for-36). Jackson, 24, was also with the big league club earlier this season, appearing in seven games in August, including his Major League debut on August 11 in a start at Philadelphia.
Miller, named yesterday as the Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August, finished his first Triple-A season with an 11-10 mark and 4.74 ERA, finishing 2nd in the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts with 160. The 6-2, 195-pound Miller went 5-1, 2.89 ERA in six August starts and he worked into the 6th inning in each of his final seven starts. Miller was named the Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Year in both 2011 and 2010.
Chambers batted .319 (114-for-357) with 3 HR's, 44 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 96 games at Memphis. He led the Redbirds in batting and on-base pct. (.405), hitting better than .320 in May, July and August, with a monthly best of .349 in July.
Jackson finished his season at Memphis with a .272 BA, 10 HR's and 47 RBI in 117 games, finishing 2nd on the team in both hits (121) and doubles (23).
