OAKLAND -- Scott Atchison's season once appeared to be over, but it now appears more likely than not that the righty reliever will return to the Red Sox at some point this month.

Atchison, who injured the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow but didn't require Tommy John surgery, threw batting practice on Saturday. He is expected to pitch in a game for Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday.

Before the injury, Atchison was an invaluable piece for the Red Sox this season, posting a 1.76 ERA in 37 games.
