Royals in the Community

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 24, 2012) – All-Star Billy Butler and closer Greg Holland will each take part in an autograph session for fans during the upcoming homestand.  Holland will meet fans at Taco Bell in Blue Springs, Mo., on August 31 with Butler signing autographs the following day, September 1, at U.S. Toy in Leawood, Kan.  Both events are free to the public.

In addition, Royals Charities will partner with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to host two concourse auctions during the upcoming homestand.  Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the MLBPAA’s youth baseball clinics for kids. 

Below is a listing of the club’s upcoming community efforts.

Tuesday, August 28 – Detroit Tigers vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

Wednesday, August 29 – Detroit Tigers vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

  • Dream Factory – Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children.  These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments.  Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Thursday, August 30 – Detroit Tigers vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

  • 4ALS Night – Major League Baseball and the Royals proudly support 4♦ALS, an initiative that raises awareness and support for the fight against ALS, otherwise known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.”  Representatives from the ALS Association-Keith Worthington Chapter, Muscular Dystrophy Association and the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALSTDI) will join patients affected with the disease at the game.  Festivities include a special ceremonial first pitch and recognition in the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat.  Each organization will also receive complimentary tickets for Thursday’s game.

Friday, August 31 – Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Holland to Meet Fans at Taco Bell – Pitcher Greg Holland will meet fans and sign autographs at Taco Bell, located at 525 NE Coronado Drive in Blue Springs, Mo., from noon-1 p.m.  Fans are invited to come out and meet Holland during this free event.
  • 50/50 Friday – For every Friday home game, volunteers sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the fourth inning.  One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening’s net proceeds.  The other half will be divided between Royals Charities and a local Kansas City charity.  The American Diabetes Association will be the designated charity for Friday’s fundraiser.  www.royals.com/5050.
  • State Farm Go To Bat Award – State Farm Insurance honors a local organization that positively impacts the Kansas City area during a special recognition prior to the game.  The Royals will honor HappyBottoms, Kansas City’s diaper bank.  HappyBottoms, which acquires diapers through donations to provide to families in need within the six-county metropolitan area through partner agencies, currently provides diapers to 650-800 children per month.
  • Budweiser Walk-Off A Hero – The Royals and Budweiser salute a member of the military by providing complimentary tickets and recognizing the honoree with a special in-game recognition. 

Saturday, September 1 – Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

  • Butler to Appear at U.S. Toy – All-Star Billy Butler will meet fans and sign autographs at U.S. Toy, located just west of State Line Road at 2008 West 103rd Terrace in Leawood, Kan., from 11 a.m. to noon.  The event is free to the public, but fans are encouraged to bring a canned food item, which will be donated to the Bishop Sullivan Center food pantry. 
  • Budweiser Walk-Off A Hero – The Royals and Budweiser salute a member of the military by providing complimentary tickets and recognizing the honoree with a special in-game recognition. 

Sunday, September 2 – Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Royals Troopers – The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program presented by John Deere.  The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.
  • Budweiser Walk-Off A Hero – The Royals and Budweiser salute a member of the military by providing complimentary tickets and recognizing the honoree with a special in-game recognition. 

Monday, September 3 – LABOR DAY: Texas Rangers vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Royals Charities and MLB Players Alumni Association Concourse Auction – Royals Charities partners with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association for an exclusive silent auction featuring memorabilia from current and former MLB stars.  The auction, which runs from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning, will be located on the third base side of the Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level.  Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the MLBPAA to help offer free youth baseball clinics for kids.

Royals and 610 Sports Radio Team Up for “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” Radio Show

Fans can learn about all of the club’s community and charity efforts by tuning into the “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” radio program.  The one-hour show, which currently airs Sundays at 10 a.m., can be heard on 610 Sports Radio, the flagship station of the Royals.  In addition to the club’s community outreach efforts, the program will highlight upcoming player appearances and provide a season-long radio tour of the Royals Hall of Fame.
