AFL announces Top Prospects Team

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Arizona Fall League announces its 2008 Top Prospects Team. Selected by Fall League managers, coaches, and administrators, the Top Prospects Team identifies the players who distinguished themselves throughout the league's seven-week 2008 schedule against other top prospects from every organization in Major League Baseball. Voters were asked to consider Fall League performance and Major League projectability.

Outfielders

Eric Young Jr. (COL) -- Phoenix Desert Dogs
Fall League batting champion (.430) ... also league leader in stolen bases (20), runs (37) and on-base percentage (.504) ... catalyst of league champion Phoenix Desert Dogs ... authored two grand-slam home runs in five-day span, the second a rare inside-the-park gapper ... 21-game hitting streak ... week four co-Player of- the-Week (Logan Morrison) ... reached base three times on two singles and a walk in the championship game for the victorious Desert Dogs.

The league's No. 4 hitter at .402 ... one of four .400 hitters ... ranked second in the league with .495 on-base percentage.

Brett Wallace (STL) -- Peoria Saguaros
The Cardinals' 2008 first-round draft choice (13th overall) hit .309 ... batted safely in 11 of his last 12 games (.417) ... six homers tied for seventh in the league with four others ... 55 total bases.

Wes Hodges (CLE) -- Surprise Rafters
Hit .349 with 6 homers, 8 doubles, and 26 RBIs in 25 games ... 26 RBIs ranked seventh (t-Doolittle) in the league.

Shortstops

Jason Donald (PHI) -- Mesa Solar Sox
The 2008 Dernell Stenson Award winner for character and leadership ... one of four .400 hitters ... second in the league in batting (.407), doubles (12) and extra-base hits (19) ... third in the league in slugging percentage (.747) ... three four-hit games ... split time between shortstop, second base and third base.

Gordon Beckham (CWS) -- Peoria Saguaros
Hit .394 to rank sixth (t-Rhyne Hughes) in the league ... posted the league's top single-game offensive performance with a five-for-five day that included seven RBIs ... he scored after all five hits, making him responsible for 12 runs.

Daniel Murphy (NYM) -- Peoria Saguaros
Batted .397 to rank fifth in the league ... .487 on-base percentage ranked third.

Kevin Frandsen (SF) -- Scottsdale Scorpions
