Beato, 25, began the 2012 season on the disabled list due to right shoulder stiffness. The right-hander appeared in seven games for the Mets this season, all during the month of July, including five scoreless efforts. He has a 10.38 ERA (5 ER/4.1 IP) with five strikeouts, five hits allowed and two walks with New York and is 4-4 with a 4.14 ERA (17 ER/37.0 IP) and 27 strikeouts compared to 11 walks in 24 games (1 start) for Triple-A Buffalo this year, including six on rehab. He opened the year with three rehab outings for the club’s High-A Port St. Lucie affiliate. Beato began his Major League career tossing a Mets franchise-record 18.2 innings without an earned run in 2011. Originally selected by the Orioles in the supplemental round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, he has a 2-1 record with a 4.67 ERA (37 ER/71.1 IP) and 44 strikeouts in his Major League career over the last two seasons, all with New York.
Atchison, 36, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 15 (retroactive to July 14) with a right elbow strain The right-hander went 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA (9 ER) in 37 outings out of the bullpen this season. He fanned 34 batters with just nine walks over 46.0 innings. In 150 career Major League appearances (1 start) over parts of six Major League seasons with the Mariners (2004-05), Giants (2007) and Red Sox (2010-12), Atchison is 7-7 with one save, a 3.57 ERA (81 ER/204.1 IP) and 162 strikeouts compared to 59 walks.
