CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game vs. Oakland, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Dewayne Wise from Class AAA Charlotte and transferred left-handed pitcher John Danks to the 60-day disabled list.
Wise, 34, takes the roster spot of Paul Konerko, who was placed on the seven-day disabled list yesterday with a concussion. He was signed as a minor-league free agent on August 3 and hit .161 (5-31) in seven games with Charlotte.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Wise batted .262 (16-61) with three home runs and eight RBI in 56 games with the Yankees this season before being designated for assignment on July 23.
Wise, who will wear uniform No. 28, played in 141 games with the Sox in 2008-09. He preserved Mark Buehrle’s perfect game on July 23, 2009 vs. Tampa Bay by making an over-the-wall catch to deny Gabe Kapler of a home run leading off the ninth inning.
