Lucky Phils fan snags Game 5 tickets

|
PHILADELPHIA -- Sean Kelly, a 25-year-old Phillies fan from Philadelphia, has been alive just long enough to see his favorite team reach the World Series twice before, but he has not seen the club win it all.

Nonetheless, his enthusiasm for the Phillies has never waned.

"I've been listening to Sean do Harry Kalas impressions since forever," his sister, Sarah, said.

Sarah then tilted her head back and offered her best imitation of the Phillies' Hall of Fame broadcaster: "This ball's outta here!"

So imagine Sean's excitement when his phone rang at 11 a.m. ET on Monday. He was informed that he had won two tickets to Game 5 of the World Series between the Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays at Citizens Bank Park.

The Philadelphia native beat out more than 28,000 entrants in a contest that he had entered on MLB.com.

"It's going to be remarkable tonight," Sean said, as he stood outside the ballpark's first-base gate about a half-hour before the first pitch of Monday night's game.

With his extra ticket, Sean brought his girlfriend, Sara Devincentis. His sister and father, Dennis, had also secured tickets to the game, where they would watch the 2008 Phillies' bid to close out the Rays for their first World Series title since 1980.

Sean and his father were working together, as union insulators, when he received the call.

"He couldn't talk," Dennis said.

"I was speechless," Sean agreed. "I thought he was playing a joke on me."

But it was no joke. After 25 years of rooting on the Phils, Sean had an up-close view for one of the biggest games for his favorite team.

"It's really more than words can say," Sean said. "I've been dreaming of this my whole life. Never did I think I'd be standing here today, about to walk into the game and witness history."
