KC fans test their skills on 'Bucks on the Pond'

Joshua Snowden and John Bowen went to Missouri State as undergrads together, and each is about to venture into his third year of law school -- Snowden at Ohio State and Bowen at Illinois.

They are big Royals fans who have a tradition now when they go to Kauffman Stadium. You probably wouldn't guess they are law students and America's leaders of tomorrow. When the crew of MLB.com's new game show "Bucks on the Pond" found them, they were each painted completely blue, Snowden with a white "K" and Bowen a white "C."

"We did the blue paint this year and will probably make it a tradition," Bowen said in an email to MLB.com. "I don't mind painting myself blue, and it's easier if someone else is, too."

While they did not earn enough prize money to quite pay back their student loans, both agreed that they won enough bucks to keep themselves in blue paint through at least 2018. Watch the latest episode of "Bucks on the Pond" and see exactly how they fared and how many chest bumps they compiled, as they took on trivia questions like they were passing the bar, except in blue.

"Bucks on the Pond" is hosted by Jeremy Brisiel, and you might be a part of it when you least expect it. Fans at the ballpark interact with MLB.com's studio through the magic of technology in conjunction with game action inside. Look for new shows to be released on MLB.com every Tuesday and Thursday this season.

Snowden, from Lee's Summit, Mo., and Bowen, from Excelsior Springs, Mo., answered questions on the left-field concourse by the "Little K" field and Sheridan's famous ice cream. Perhaps the funniest moment is when two boys in red shirts simply stare at them in wonder.

"It was pretty sweet," Bowen said of their experience. "The show was a lot of fun. We were just walking around looking for stuff to do while blue."

"Your parents are so proud right now," Brisiel said at one point on the show.

In creating a new experience for fans, MLB.com is giving people a chance to earn bucks while they spend bucks at the stadium. Let's say you got up to order a hot dog between innings or you are at one of the souvenir stands on the concourse. Or you are wandering past painted in blue. Fans are selected randomly on the day the Bucks team is at that park, and suddenly the game is on.

Contestants are asked a trivia question -- general knowledge and baseball -- on each pitch in a half-inning of baseball. Get the question correct and earn some bucks. Get the question wrong and it's a strike. Three strikes and you're out.

The questions' difficulty and value increase with the outs in the on-field action: $5 easy questions to start, $10 medium-difficulty questions after one out and $20 hard questions after two outs. If the contestant lasts longer than the team at-bat, they win the bucks in their bank.

In addition to the Royals, teams visited so far include the Orioles, Yankees, Marlins, Dodgers and Red Sox. Tentatively coming up are home games for the Astros, Cubs, Mets and White Sox.
