• Despite lobbying for inclusion in the lineup, shortstop Rafael Furcal (lower back stiffness) was given another day off on Thursday. The medical staff cleared Furcal to play, but the Cardinals opted to hold him out until after the shortstop visits with the team doctor in St. Louis on Friday.

Furcal has taken batting and fielding practice prior to all three games of this series.

• The Brewers have lined up their rotation for their upcoming series at Busch Stadium, which begins on Friday. Starting the series opener will be Randy Wolf (3-7, 5.45 ERA). He'll be followed by Mark Rogers on Saturday and Marco Estrada on Sunday.

• First baseman Matt Adams went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in Triple-A Memphis' loss to Sacramento on Wednesday. Since coming back from an elbow injury, Adams is 18-for-58 with four homers and 12 RBIs.
