D-backs designate Overbay for assignment

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have designated first baseman Lyle Overbay for assignment, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

                              

Overbay, 35, hit .292 (28-for-96) with 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 10 RBI in 45 games with the D-backs in 2012.

 

In 12 Major League seasons, he is hitting .271 (1,186-for-4,379) with 133 home runs and 581 RBI in 1,304 games with Arizona (2001-03, ’11-12), Milwaukee (2004-05), Toronto (2006-10) and Pittsburgh (2011). Overbay appeared in 161 games with the D-backs and batted .277 (112-for-404) with 7 homers and 49 RBI and was a member of the 2001 World Series team.
