The Nationals signed free-agent right-hander Mike MacDougal to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Syracuse. The 35-year-old reliever made seven appearances for the Dodgers this season, posting a 7.94 ERA. He went 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA over 57 innings last year for Los Angeles.
The Nationals unconditionally released outfielder Xavier Nady on Sunday. Nady was designated for assignment on July 21 when Washington recalled left-hander John Lannan. The 33-year-old was sidelined by a right wrist injury and batted .157 in 40 games with the Nationals this season.
With their 60th win of the season on Saturday night, the Nationals became the first Washington-based team to win at least 60 of their first 100 games since the 1933 Senators (64-36), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Nats have also already won more games this year than they did in 2008 or '09, when they won 59 games each season.
Saturday night's 4-1 win over the Brewers was Johnson's 100th as the Nationals' manager. Johnson carried a 100-83 record with Washington into Sunday's series finale at Milwaukee.
