Zimmerman earns NL Player of Week Award
Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has been on a tear at the plate lately, and his hot bat netted him the National League Player of the Week Award on Monday.

Zimmerman led the Majors with 15 hits and 32 total bases in eight games last week and finished second in the NL with a .500 average and .571 on-base percentage. He also hit five home runs and posted a 1.067 slugging percentage, both second in the Majors, and he scored nine runs, tied for the most in the NL, while driving in eight.

The 27-year-old recorded a hit in seven of Washington's eight games last week, with five multi-hit performances. He scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning of Tuesday's 5-4 victory. He finished the week strong as well, going 3-for-5 with two homers and three RBIs in Sunday's 9-2 win.

Since receiving a cortisone shot in his right shoulder on June 24, Zimmerman has batted .392 with a 1.255 OPS, 11 homers and 28 RBIs in 25 games. His 14 home runs on the season put him in a four-way tie for second among NL third basemen, all trailing Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez.

This is Zimmerman's third career weekly award and his first since August 2011.
