Pirates Homestand Highlights Friday, July 20 thru Wednesday, July 25, 2012

The Pittsburgh Pirates return to PNC Park for a six-game homestand as they play host to the Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs. The eighth homestand of the season is highlighted by the second Social Media Night at PNC Park on Friday, July 20, Zambelli Fireworks Night on Saturday, July 21 and Lunch with the Bucs on Wednesday, July 25.

Friday, July 20, 2012—Pirates vs. Miami Marlins (7:05 p.m.)

  • Social Media Night: Tonight the Pirates host their second Social Media Night of 2012 at PNC Park. For $20 fans will receive a seat on the Pirates Left Field Deck PLUS $10 in loaded value on the game ticket to be redeemed at any PNC Park concession or merchandise stand. Participants will also receive our new @Pirates t-shirt FREE and a special invite to the pre-game reception on the Left Field Deck starting at 5:30 p.m. The reception will include prizes and giveaways and appearances by Pirates broadcasters as the Pirates flagship station SPORTSRADIO 93.7 The Fan will broadcast their pre-game show LIVE from the event.
  • Free Shirt Friday: Tonight is a Free Shirt Friday! All fans with paid admission will receive a free Pirates T-shirt, Presented by Viva, Cottonelle and Giant Eagle.
  • Friday Block Party: Don’t miss tonight’s Friday Block Party on Federal Street. Fans will enjoy a free concert while they party on the street as food & beer sales will be available. Tonight’s featured musical guest is the rock band Radio Tokyo.
  • Pirates Celebrity Bartenders: Tonight’s celebrity bartender, former Pirates pitcher Elroy Face, will serve cocktails in the Hall of Fame Club beginning in the 7th inning and staying thru 30 minutes after the game.
  • Beer Passport: Beer Passport ticket holders 21-and-older are invited to a 90-minute beer sampling event that begins when gates open at 5:30 p.m. For more information and to order tickets, visit pirates.com/beerpassport.

Saturday, July 21, 2012—Pirates vs. Miami Marlins (7:05 p.m.)

  • Family Fun Run/Walk: Today more than 3,000 people throughout Pennsylvania will join the Pittsburgh Pirates for the Family Fun Run/Walks to benefit our friends and neighbors with epilepsy/seizure disorders. The run/walks have become a cornerstone of the EFWCP’s special events. Pirates pitcher Tony Watson, WTAE’s Andrew Stockey, and Jim Krenn will be on hand to lead the day's festivities. It all begins at 9:30 a.m. with a 5k run/2 mile walk course that winds through the North Shore. Participants may then move onto a one-of-a-kind tailgate party, where they can enjoy food and beverages from local sponsors. Prizes are awarded to the teams and individuals that raise the most money. All participants are eligible for a free ticket to a future Pirates game, a commemorative t-shirt, and other fabulous items.
  • Stargell Stamp: Today in a special pre-game ceremony, Hall of Famer Willie “Pops” Stargell will be honored with the dedication of the commemorative stamp that bears his image in his legendary batting stance. Pirates executives and executives from the United States Post Office will unveil the stamp on the field during the pre-game festivities.
  • Zambelli Fireworks Night: Fans are encouraged to stay in their seats immediately following the game and enjoy an amazing fireworks display presented by Zambelli Fireworks International, courtesy of PPG.
  • Saturday Raffles: The Pirates Charities Saturday Raffles will be held in-ballpark throughout the 2012 season. The raffle location is outside of the main Guest Relations office behind section 117. Fans can purchase raffle tickets to win prizes including Pirates memorabilia, original artwork, gift certificates and more. Tickets are one for $2 or three for $5 with all proceeds benefitting Pirates Charities. The prize drawing takes place at the end of the 7th inning.
  • Scratch and Win: All fans, with paid admission, will receive a scratch and win ticket, compliments of Eat’n Park.

Sunday, July 22, 2012—Pirates vs. Miami Marlins (1:35 p.m.) Kids Day

  • Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, face painting, information about the #1 Cochran Bucaroos Kids Club and more.
  • Miracle League Day: Today is Miracle League Day at PNC Park as almost 200 Miracle League athletes, families and volunteers from the local Miracle Leagues that the Pirates and Pirates Charities support will be in attendance. As part of the day there will be a very special Kids Take the Field as all the kids participating in the pre-game ceremony will be Miracle League athletes.
  • RBI Scholarship: Pittsburgh Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program (RBI) participant Ta’Juan Dutrieville will be recognized on the field during a pregame ceremony as a recipient of a 2012 MLB “RBI (Runs Batted In) for RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Scholarship.” Ta’Juan will receive $5,000/year for four years for post-high school education. There were 12 total scholarships awarded nationwide.
  • Pirates Visor: All fans in attendance, with paid admission, will receive a free Pirates visor, courtesy of the Bradenton (FL) Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
  • Kids Run the Bases: Kids attending today’s game are invited to stick around after the game to run the bases on the field at PNC Park, courtesy of H.K. Anderson Pretzels.
  • Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Awareness: Today fans raised funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation by purchasing special tickets for today’s game with a portion of the proceeds going to the foundation.   • Karstens Kares: Tonight from 6 to 9 p.m., Jeff Karstens and his fiancée, Jessica will host “Karstens Kares” at Nakama—Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar. Jeff, Jessica and other Pirates celebrities will Cook for a Cause to raise money for Pirates Charities and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event in sold out, but there will also be an outdoor block party on 17th Street with food, beverages and live entertainment.

Monday, July 23, 2012—Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs (7:05 p.m.)

  • Cutch’s Crew: Andrew McCutchen’s on-going community outreach with The Pittsburgh Promise and the baseball players from the Oliver High School team will continue on Monday, July 23rd. The student athletes will meet at the Heinz History Center at 2:30 p.m. for an exclusive tour of ‘The Story of Negro League Baseball: We Are the Ship’ exhibit. The kids will also receive “We Are The Ship” book autographed by McCutchen and by Sean Gibson, great-great grandson of Josh Gibson, a Homestead Grays tee and tickets to that evenings game in center field plus ARAMARK dollars to be used at concession stands throughout PNC Park, courtesy of McCutchen.
  • Meet the Parrot: Today at 12:30 p.m. the Pirate Parrot will be somewhere in the Pittsburgh area with 50 pairs of FREE tickets as part of the Pirates “Meet the Parrot” Twitter promotion.   • Thanks Cutch: To honor Pirates two-time All Star Andrew McCutchen and his participation in the 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby on July 9, the Pirates are offering $18 Lower Outfield Box and Outfield Box tickets to tonight’s game. The 18 is a tribute to the total home runs McCutchen hit in the first half of the 2012 season.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012—Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs (7:05 p.m.)

  • VIP Night: The Pirates and Pirates Charities will host a VIP Party for the Highmark Caring Place, a foundation that champions the cause of grieving children by creating awareness of their needs, providing programs for them and their families, and empowering the community to effectively support them. VIP (Very Important Pirate) Parties are monthly parties held during the season at PNC Park that provide deserving children with a night at the ballpark in true VIP-style - complete with a private meet and greet with Pirates players & coaches, a Pirates replica jersey and VIP goodie bag for each child. There will also be an opportunity to participate in a pregame ceremony, a seat to watch the game in an exclusive Luxury Suites, great menu items provided by Levy Restaurants, entertainment and much more.
  • KPMG RBI Seminar: Today 25 youth from the Pittsburgh RBI will participate in a one-day financial education seminar for basic financial literacy. KPMG will host the seminar in their downtown offices from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as Pirates Alumni & Broadcaster John Wehner will greet the group at 11 a.m.
  • Lady Bucs Club Party: Tonight is the third Lady Bucs Club Party of 2012. Members will enjoy a pre-game party in the Pirates Picnic Park complete with giveaways and prizes as well as watch the game from the Lady Bucs Club section at PNC Park.   • Vision & Dental Screening: Today starting at 11 a.m. the Pirates along with Highmark, Davis Vision and United Concordia Dental in partnership with Tickets for Kids will host a free vision and dental screening for more than 150 youth in the PNC Picnic Park area. Tickets for Kids is a non-profit organization whose goal is to offer admission to Pittsburgh area events to those for whom cost of admission is prohibitive.

Big League Championships at PNC Park

Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27 the Pirates will host the Citiparks Pittsburgh Big League Championships at PNC Park for Pony, Colt, Little League and Slo-Pitch softball leagues. Seating for fans will be behind home plate and along first and third base lines on Thursday for infield games and the bleacher area for outfield games on Friday. Concession stands and bathrooms will be open both days in the respective areas of fan seating and the scoreboard will be on for all games and players will be posted for all to see. Stand Up 2 Cancer

The Pirates and Pirates Charities will host Stand Up 2 Cancer Night at PNC Park on Friday, August 10 vs. the San Diego Padres. Ticket packages for the promotion are $30 with $10 from every package sold going directly to the Stand Up 2 Cancer fund. Participants will be seated in a special area of PNC Park and at a designated time during the game will have the opportunity to stand up in support of a loved one affected by cancer. Ticket packages include: one ticket in the Stand Up 2 Cancer section in the Pirates Cove, a complimentary Stand Up 2 Cancer cap and t-shirt, entry into the “Stand Up 2 Cancer with the Pirates” raffle and more. Heart and Hustle

The Major League Baseball Alumni Association (MLBPAA) announced Andrew McCutchen as the Pirates winner of the association’s Heart and Hustle Award. This esteemed award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit, and tradition of the game. The MLBPAA formed 30 committees, comprised of Alumni players with established relationships to each team. One player from each Major League team is chosen by the committees based on the passion, desire, and work ethic demonstrated both on and off the field. As the season draws to a close, fans, all Alumni and active players will vote to select the final winner from the 30 team winners. The final winner will be announced on November 13, 2012 at the 13th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City.

Wins for Kids

Join Clint Hurdle and his wife Karla, along with Pirates Charities and ROOT SPORTS, in the 2012 Wins for Kids campaign. The program is simple: make a monetary pledge to Pirates Charities for each Pirates win during the 2012 regular season. Over the course of the season, your donation will help Pirates Charities strengthen our community by supporting organizations and programs aimed at improving the lives of children and adults in the greater Pittsburgh area. All monies raised through our Wins for Kids program will benefit Pirates Charities and the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh's Prader-Willi Syndrome Program. Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare, complex genetic disorder that affects many parts of the body and the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh is the only hospital-based site in the world offering treatment for this population.

Where’s the Parrot?

The Pirate Parrot is active in and around the community as an ambassador of the Pirates organization. Below are a few of the upcoming events he will be attending in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.

Dynamic Pricing Section

New for 2012, the Pirates unveiled dynamic pricing system for the Bleacher General Admission section at PNC Park. Tickets for the 1,400 seat section, located in left field, will be placed on sale 10-days prior to each home game. The initial ticket price will then be adjusted- both lower and higher- in real time, based on demand.
