Mets activate Jason Bay from DL

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 17, 2012 - The New York Mets announced the club has returned outfielder Jason Bay from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the 15-Day Disabled List. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Mets designated infielder Omar Quintanilla for assignment.  Bay is in tonight's starting lineup at Washington.

Bay, 33, was 3-10 (.300) with two runs scored and four walks in three rehabilitation games with Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and was 0-6 with two walks in two rehabilitation contests with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League. Bay suffered a concussion on June 15 vs. Cincinnati.

Bay is hitting .187 (14-75) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, four home runs and six RBI in 22 games this year.  The 6-2, 211-pounder was also on the DL from April 25-June 6 with a non-displaced fracture of a rib on the left side.

Quintanilla, 30, hit .257 (18-70) with 13 runs scored, five doubles, one home run and four RBI in 29 games with the Mets this year.
