Blue Jays select contract of Loup

Today the TORONTO BLUE JAYS will select the contract of LHP AARON LOUP on Friday, July 13th and have placed LHP LUIS PEREZ on the 60-day disabled list today, retroactive to July 9th.

LOUP, 24, has spent the 2012 season with New Hampshire of the Eastern League (AA), posting a 0-3 record with three saves and a 2.78 ERA in 37 relief appearances. The Raceland, Louisiana native has walked only 14, while adding 43 strikeouts in 43.1 innings for the Fisher Cats. The 2009, 9th round selection is in his 4th professional season spending full seasons in each of Gulf Coast (2009), Lansing (2010) and Dunedin (2011).

PEREZ, 27, is being placed on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow UCL tear, retroactive to July 9th. The Guayubin, Dominican Republic native has appeared in 35 games this season, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.43 ERA. The 35 appearances rank 4th on the club, while his 42.0 innings are the most out of the bullpen for any Blue Jays reliever.
