Report: Verlander to start All-Star Game for AL
Justin Verlander is about to put another high-profile feather in his Detroit Tigers cap.

According to a report on FOXSports.com, Verlander has been chosen by manager Ron Washington as the American League's starting pitcher for Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Kansas City.

FOXSports.com, citing a Major League source, said the news will be officially announced at a Monday news conference, but it's hardly a surprise that Verlander is getting the nod. Verlander most likely would have started the Midsummer Classic in Phoenix last season, but since he had started the Sunday before the break, he didn't pitch. This year, his most recent start took place on July 4 and was a complete-game win over the Twins.

Verlander figures to pitch well in Kauffman Stadium. He has a lifetime ERA of 1.83 at the Royals' home park. Then again, he's pitched well just about everywhere this year. He's 9-5 with a 2.58 ERA, and leads the Major Leagues in strikeouts and innings pitched.

The 83rd Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS, and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed. Pregame ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m. (EDT)/6:30 p.m. (CDT). ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Game coverage.

Fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the official voting for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player presented by Chevrolet via the 2012 MLB.com All-Star Game MVP Vote during the All-Star Game on MLB.com.
