Jake Peavy to replace C.J. Wilson on AL All-Star roster

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy has been named by 2012 American League All-Star manager Ron Washington to replace Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-hander C.J. Wilson on the A.L.’s active roster for the 83rd All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced today.

Peavy is 7-5 on the season with a 2.85 ERA and four complete games in his 17 starts, with 108 strikeouts in his 120.0 innings pitched (93 H, 20 BB).  Peavy, who joined the White Sox in the 2009 season, has made his first A.L. All-Star team and his third overall Midsummer Classic appearance (previous: 2005, 2007).  The 2007 National League Cy Young Award winner started the 2007 Midsummer Classic for the N.L. in San Francisco.  The Alabama native is 116-86 with a 3.43 ERA in his 11-year Major League career.  Wilson, a two-time All-Star, has been battling a blister issue on the middle finger of his left hand this season, and while it is healing, it was medically recommended to give him rest over the four days.  Wilson will be recognized as an All-Star with full honors and plans to attend the festivities in Kansas City.

Other announcements regarding the All-Star rosters will be made as they become available.  The current American League and National League All-Star rosters accompany this press release.

The 2012 All-Star Game will be played at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, July 10th.  The 83rd All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International’s independent feed.  Pregame ceremonies will begin at 8:00 p.m. (EDT)/7:00 p.m. (local).  ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game.  MLB Network, MLB.com and SiriusXM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.  For more information, please visit allstargame.com or royals.com/2012.
