Valdespin, 24, joins the Mets for the fourth time this season. In his previous three stints, Valdespin went 14-63 (.222) with two home runs and 12 RBI. His first major league hit was a three-run, pinch-hit home run off Jonathan Papelbon on May 7 at Philadelphia that gave the Mets a 5-2 win.
The 6-0, 190-pounder hit .289 (39-135) with five home runs and 19 RBI in 34 games for the Bisons. He stole a season-high four bases on July 2 vs. Durham and had a game-winning single last night in the Bisons’ 5-4 win vs. the Bulls.
Hampson, 32, did not record a decision in three games with the Mets this season. He allowed two runs, both unearned, over 1.1 innings with the club.
