Duffy, Bonilla Win June Honors as Phillies Minor League Players of the Month

First baseman Chris Duffy of the Lakewood BlueClaws is the Phillies Minor League Player of the Month for June. Pitching honors for the month go to right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla of the Reading Phillies.

            Duffy batted .420 in June as he totaled 34 hits in 23 games, while reaching base safely in every game played during the month.  Duffy enters play tonight riding an 18-game hitting streak where he is hitting .449 during the course of the streak.

In 35 games at Lakewood this year, Duffy has hit .393 with a .472 on-base percentage.  A 24-year-old native of New York, N.Y., Duffy was selected in the 26th round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Central Florida.

            Bonilla, signed by Sal Agostinelli and Bernardo Perez as an amateur free agent out of Samana, Dominican Republic, did not allow a single run during the month of June.  Over 10 appearances, the 22-year-old went 1-0 and struck out 24 batters in 18.2 innings of work. Bonilla held opposing batters to a .133 average, while converting both of his save opportunities.

Since being promoted from single-A Clearwater on May 5, Bonilla has faced a total of 64 right-handed hitters; he has struck out 29 of them (45.3%).
