A’s and Alternative Family Services Host Bay Area BBQ Championship July 7

OAKLAND, Calif. – On Saturday, July 7, the Oakland A’s and Alternative Family Services will host the Second Annual Bay Area BBQ Championship prior to the A’s vs. Seattle Mariners 7:10 p.m. game at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Pro-Am BBQ teams and celebrities, including A’s outfielder and Petaluma native Jonny Gomes and celebrity personality and author of “NFL BBQ Cookbook”, Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe, will team up for foster youth for a day of Pro BBQ and Major League Baseball.

The Bay Area BBQ Championship event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Creekside parking lot of the Coliseum and features world-class BBQ sampling from Pro-Am BBQ teams, a BBQ and beer pairing (ages 21 and over), a AAA BBQ cook-off featuring guest tri-tip judge Gomes (1-2 p.m.), an Oakland Fire Department station vs. station cook-off, a BBQ Throwdown hosted by Dr. BBQ, cooking demonstrations, live music and a family boardwalk area. Following the event, fans 21 and over can attend A’s BeerFest from 5:10-7:10 p.m. in the Eastside Club of the Coliseum.

Tickets for the Bay Area BBQ Championship must be purchased online at www.oaklandathletics.com/bayareabbq. General admission tickets are priced at $33 and include access to the BBQ event, five tasting tickets, and a Plaza Level ticket to the game. VIP tickets are available for $78 and include VIP access to the BBQ event including VIP tent and stage seating, five tasting tickets and an A’s MVP ticket. Tickets for kids ages 14 and under are priced at $12 for general admission and $41 for VIP and do not include any tasting tickets. Additional BBQ tasting tickets are available at the event for $2.

A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit Alternative Family Services (AFS), a non-profit organization that has been creating and supporting positive family environments for foster youth since 1978. Additionally, the A’s and Gomes will host a special on-field pre-game batting practice visit for a group of local AFS foster children.

The Bay Area BBQ Championship is one of the largest BBQ Championship in the state of California, with 40 pro teams and 15 AAA teams confirmed to participate.
