Gerry Davis, a regular season crew chief in his 29th year of Major League service, will be the Crew Chief and the home plate umpire for the 83rd All-Star Game on July 10th at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, it was announced today.
This will be the fourth Midsummer Classic assignment for Davis, who has worked the All-Star Game in 1989, 1997 and 2002, when he was also the crew chief. The St. Louis native has been assigned to 10 Division Series, eight League Championship Series and four World Series in his career. Davis will guide a crew that includes Jim Joyce (first base), Brian Runge (second base), Tony Randazzo (third base), Lance Barksdale (left field) and Brian Knight (right field). This will mark the third Midsummer Classic for Joyce (previous: 1994, 2001), the second for Randazzo (previous: 2001), and the first for Barskdale, Knight and Runge. In the first half of the season, Runge has worked three no-hitters, including the perfect games thrown by Philip Humber (April 21st) of the Chicago White Sox and Matt Cain (June 13th) of the San Francisco Giants. Runge was behind the plate both for Humber’s gem and for the June 8th no-hitter by six Seattle Mariners’ pitchers, and he was at third base for Cain’s historic performance.
The official scorers for the 2012 All-Star Game will be the chairperson of the Kansas City chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star; the BBWAA President, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times; and longtime Major League Baseball official scorer for Kansas City Royals games, Del Black. David Boyce, another veteran MLB scorer of Royals games, will serve as the official scorer for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 8th.

All four umpires have been assigned to the State Farm Home Run Derby on Gatorade All-Star Workout Day on Monday, July 9th, while Bailey and Flynn also will work Sunday’s Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game.
