"He's got a bone bruise in his quad," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We'll see how he feels [Sunday]; my guess is he's going to be pretty sore. We'll just have to go day by day."
The Yankees announced that Swisher had suffered a left quad contusion after his sixth-inning slide into home plate, in which he made contact with Washington catcher Jesus Flores. Swisher limped off the field after the play.
Swisher was attempting to score on Russell Martin's fielder's-choice bouncer to pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, who fired home in time to nab Swisher. Swisher was replaced in right field by Andruw Jones for the home half of the sixth inning.
The Yankees are already playing without one of their regular outfielders, as left fielder Brett Gardner has been limited to just nine games with a persistent right elbow strain. Raul Ibanez, Jones and Dewayne Wise have seen increased time in the outfield as a result.
