D-backs' Kubel, Cubs' Dempster take honors
The week ending June 10 saw a pair of National Leaguers named as co-Players of the Week, D-backs outfielder Jason Kubel and Cubs starter Ryan Dempster.

Kubel tied for the Major League lead with 12 RBIs last week and hit .409 (9-for-22), the sixth-best mark in the NL. He also posted an .818 slugging percentage and hit two homers. Kubel just missed the cycle on Tuesday, when he went 3-for-5 with five RBIs in a 10-0 win at home against the Rockies.

Dempster has allowed no runs and struck out nine in a Major League-high 15 innings spanning two starts. He took his first win of the season with seven shutout innings in a 10-0 win at Milwaukee on Tuesday, when he gave up just three hits. He had a perfect game through five innings.

On Sunday, Dempster scattered four hits over eight innings, striking out six in an 8-2 road win over the Twins. He gave up his only walk of the week in that start.

Dempster was 0-3 until the Milwaukee start despite a 2.90 ERA entering it. That snapped an 18-game winless break dating to last season. On the season, Dempster is 2-3 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 starts and 74 innings.

Kubel entered Monday with a .299/.379/.485 line, six home runs and 36 RBIs.

This is the second career weekly award for both players. Kubel won in the American League with the Twins for the week ending Oct. 5, 2009, while Dempster won 11 years ago with the Marlins, for the week ending July 8, 2001.
