ARLINGTON -- Dirk Nowitzki and several of his Dallas Mavericks teammates, along with his head coach Rick Carlisle and owner Mark Cuban, will be a part of a celebrity baseball game that will take place at Frisco's Dr. Pepper Ballpark June 30.
"Dirk Nowitzki's 2012 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game" will be played later this month where the Double-A RoughRiders play their home games. Mavericks players Jason Terry, Delonte West and Brian Cardinal, along with team president Donnie Nelson, will participate in the game. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation.
Joining the Mavericks will be Daryl "Moose" Johnston, who helped the Dallas Cowboys win three Super Bowls, former Cowboys safety Roy Williams, former Texas Ranger Kevin Mench, and Arlington native Ben Grieve, a former Major League outfielder. FC Dallas players Ugo Ihemelu and Brek Shea are also set to play in the celebrity game.
Among the scheduled festivities include a Whataburger Heroes Special Olympics All-Star Softball Game and, for the first time, a Celebrity Home Run Derby. Fans interested in participating in the Home Run Derby will have the opportunity to try out June 22 at Hits400, a Plano batting cage. Following the celebrity baseball game, fireworks sponsored by Baylor Medical Center at Frisco will cap off the event.
