Royals In The Community

KANSAS CITY, MO (June 11, 2012) – Royals Charities partners with FOX Sports Kansas City to host the annual Broadcast Auction, one of its biggest charity events of the year, during the upcoming homestand.  Set for Wednesday, June 13, viewers will have the opportunity to call in their bids on exciting ballpark experiences.  Below is a listing of the club’s upcoming community efforts for June 12-14.

Monday, June 11 – Off Day

  • St. James Place Blue T-Shirt Dinner – Royals designated hitter/first baseman Billy Butler and his wife, Katie, will attend the Blue T-Shirt Dinner set to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the St. James Place, located at 3936 Troost in Kansas City, Mo.  The special event allows volunteers and donors of the Bishop Sullivan Center and St. James Place to share a meal with the people they serve.  The Butlers created the Hit-It-A-Ton program to benefit the food pantries at St. James Place and Bishop Sullivan Center in 2008.  For more information, members of the media may contact the St. James Place at (816) 561-8515.

Tuesday, June 12 – Milwaukee Brewers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Prostate Cancer Foundation Day – The Royals join Major League Baseball in its effort to fight prostate cancer.  With support from all MLB teams, as well as players, managers, coaching staffs, groundskeepers and umpires, each home run hit in 75 selected games from June 7-17 – leading up to Father’s Day – raises money to fight prostate cancer.
  • Royals Charities and MLB Players Alumni Association Concourse Auction – Royals Charities partners with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association for an exclusive silent auction featuring memorabilia from current and former MLB stars.  The auction, which runs from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning, will be located on the third base side of the Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level.  Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the MLBPAA to help offer free youth baseball clinics for kids.

 

Wednesday, June 13 – Milwaukee Brewers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals Charities Broadcast Auction – Royals Charities and FOX Sports Kansas City partner for a special on-air auction, giving viewers the opportunity to bid on unique ballpark experiences or purchase an exclusive Royals ticket package.  The auction begins at 6:30 p.m. during the Hy-Vee Royals LIVE pre-game show and continues throughout the telecast.  For more information, visit www.royals.com/broadcastauction.
  • Dream Factory – Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children.  These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments.  Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction – Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction on the third base side of the Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Thursday, June 14 – Milwaukee Brewers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • RBI Night – The Royals host participants in the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program of Kansas City, Kan., for a special night at Kauffman Stadium.  The kids receive complimentary tickets and special recognition during the game.
  • Gloves for Kids Presentation – Prior to the game, the Royals celebrate the nearly $20,000 in new gloves and equipment raised through the Gloves for Kids fundraiser held last September at Kansas Sampler.  Broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre will join representatives from Kansas Sampler and Pro Athlete, Inc., which helped secure the equipment, during a special pregame recognition.  Youth from the RBI program of Kansas City, Kan., will represent the 10 baseball and softball organizations that benefited from the new equipment.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction – Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction on the third base side of the Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Royals and 610 Sports Radio Team Up for “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” Radio Show

Fans can learn about all of the club’s community and charity efforts by tuning into the “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” radio program.  The one-hour show, which is scheduled to air every Sunday at 10 a.m. throughout the season, can be heard on 610 Sports Radio, the flagship station of the Royals.  In addition to the club’s community outreach efforts, the program will highlight upcoming player appearances and provide a season-long radio tour of the Royals Hall of Fame.
