Royals, FSKC set to debut new TV promo

As part of an on-going effort to pay tribute to the lasting legacy of Buck O’Neil, the Kansas City Royals and FOX Sports Kansas City will debut a new promotional spot for the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat program for the club’s next homestand, which opens tomorrow.

The spot features Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and is available to view at www.royals.com/buckseat.

Since 2007, the club has paid tribute to the lasting impact O’Neil had on the game of baseball and the Kansas City area by filling “Buck’s seat” with a member of the community who embodies his vibrant spirit.  O’Neil spent many days and nights supporting the Royals from behind home plate at Kauffman Stadium, both as a scout and fan. 

Honorees are recognized during the Royals pregame ceremony and enjoy the game from “Buck’s seat” behind home plate.  FSKC is once again partnering with the Royals on the program by featuring Buck Seat honorees during FSKC home telecasts.  In addition to four game tickets, honorees also receive food vouchers and a commemorative plaque celebrating his/her day at The K.

As part of a continued partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the club will host its annual Salute to the Negro Leagues celebration on Saturday, July 21 when the Royals take on the Minnesota Twins at 6:10 p.m.  The first 20,000 fans will receive a Buck O’Neil Bobblehead courtesy of Hy-Vee.  On the field, both teams will don Negro Leagues jerseys from the Kansas City Monarchs and St. Paul Colored Gophers presented by Sprint.

As previously announced, Major League Baseball and the Royals are funding a new, dynamic traveling exhibit for the museum that will take a historical look through photos, videos and text at Negro Leagues players who, after the integration of baseball, became MLB All-Stars.  After its premiere in Kansas City, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will develop a three-to-five year national tour of the exhibition, with plans to make it available in future All-Star Game cities. In addition, a portion of the exhibit will be integrated into the current, permanent “Major League Baseball” section of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
