Rockies option RHP Carlos Torres to Triple-A Colorado Springs

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced tonight that the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Torres to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Torres, 29, was recalled prior to today’s doubleheader but did not appear in either game. This was his second stint with the Rockies this season, as he spent 11 days with Colorado from 5/4-15. Torres allowed just one run on 2 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts in his three appearances with Colorado earlier this month. He has spent the balance of the 2012 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA (33.0 ip, 9 er), 13 walks and 32 strikeouts in seven starts for the Sky Sox. In 16 career Major League appearances, six starts, the California native has a 1-3 record with a 6.46 ERA (46.0 ip, 33 er). Torres was signed by Colorado as a Minor League free agent on January 11, 2012 and was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
