MINNEAPOLIS -- After missing three games with soreness in his right calf, Ryan Doumit returned to the Twins' lineup as the designated hitter for Sunday's finale against the Tigers.
Doumit suffered a strained calf on May 16 but was able to appear as a pinch-hitter on May 19 before making back-to-back starts as DH on Tuesday and Wednesday against the White Sox.
He was out of the lineup for precautionary reasons the last few days, as the Twins wanted him to work on catching drills in the bullpen.
"He was champing at the bit to get back out there," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He's done everything. He's caught bullpens. He's blocked balls. He's thrown to the bases. Yesterday, he was probably expecting to get back in there but I wanted to give him the extra day."
