Young 'Callups' take sports show to big leagues

Two students are taking to the airwaves with hopes of combining their love of baseball and broadcasting to become some of the sport's next great voices.

Ben Greenberg and Charlie Greenwald, two 2012 graduates of Staples High School in Westport, Conn., are hosts of the "The Callups," which has debuted on

Greenberg will be attending Elon University in North Carolina in the fall, where he will study communications after spending his high school days as the station manager at Staples High School's award-winning radio station, WWPT. He has done play-by-play action for Staples soccer, hockey, basketball and football, and also held a weekly after-school radio show called "Final Bell Sports Flash" that featured discussion of high school and professional sports.

Greenwald will attend Emerson College in Boston to study broadcast journalism. He participated in the Staples Players high school theatre company, with lead roles in productions of Brighton Beach Memoirs, West Side Story and Into the Woods. He also had extensive experience at Staples High School in television and radio.
