Wright, Mets launch 5 Star*Kids

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The New York Mets today announced that the David Wright Foundation and the Mets Foundation have launched the 5 Star*Kids program to provide tickets to youth-serving organizations to select Mets home games throughout the 2007 season.

The 5 Star*Kids program will provide 25 tickets to children from the New York City PBA Families when the Mets host the Chicago Cubs tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Wright created the program with the support of the Mets Foundation to bring children out who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend a baseball game to Shea Stadium.

The 5*Star Kids program will host children on Wednesday, May 30 (vs. San Francisco); Wednesday, June 27 (vs. St. Louis); Thursday, June 28 (vs. St. Louis); Thursday, July 12 (vs. Cincinnati); Wednesday, July 25 (vs. Pittsburgh); Wednesday, Aug. 8 (vs. Atlanta); Wednesday, Aug. 22 (vs. San Diego); Thursday, Aug. 23 (vs. San Diego); Monday, Sept. 10 (vs. Atlanta); and Wednesday, Sept. 26 (vs. Washington).

"I am in a position where I can bring these kids out to the ballpark to enjoy a game," said Wright. "The PBA is especially important to me because my father, Rhon, is a police officer in Virginia and I can identify with the issues and emotions that come with being an officer's child. My goal is to provide these kids with a positive, long-lasting memory."
