MLB to host doubleheader for prospects in Santo Domingo on May 31

As part of Major League Baseball’s prospect league for unsigned players, a day-night doubleheader has been scheduled for Thursday, May 31st in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  The games will be played at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in Estadio Quisqueya, the host stadium of all MLB prospect league games.

Consistent with the format of the league, the doubleheader will include players who are currently eligible to sign professional contracts playing a game during the day, followed by a night game featuring highly regarded players who will become eligible on or after July 2nd, playing a game against the Canadian Junior National Team.

The doubleheader is part of MLB’s continued commitment to provide a venue where MLB Clubs can maximize their evaluation process of both eligible players and the top unsigned players who will become eligible to sign professional contracts in the Dominican Republic.

“Major League Baseball is excited to host this special doubleheader, which is designed specifically to showcase the talent of the Dominican Republic’s top amateur players,” said Joe Torre, MLB’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations. “We hope that the inclusion of the Canadian Junior National Team will help create a competitive atmosphere that highlights top prospects from both countries.”

Among the expected participants are Amed Rosario of the Dominican Republic and Ryan Kellogg of Canada.  Rosters for each game will be announced in the coming days.
