The Cleveland Indians today announced Akron INF KYLE BELLOWS has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for May 14 – May 20. Bellows was also named Eastern League Player of the Week yesterday. The Indians Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.
Bellows, 23, hit .417 (10-24) with a 3 2B, 3 HR and 9 RBI throughout the week, while posting a 1.357 OPS (.440 on-base pct, .917 slugging pct.). On May 18 vs. Richmond, Bellows went 4-5 with 2 runs, a double, HR and 4 RBI in a 16-3 win. He raised his batting average from .193 to the current .244 mark over the span for the week. For the 2012 season, he is batting .244 (29-119) with 14 runs scored, 5 doubles, 5 homers and 19 RBI while stealing 3 bases in 4 attempts and posting a .755 OPS (.343 on-base pct., .412 slugging pct.).
Bellows was the Indians 4th round selection in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of San Jose State University. In 2010, had a career high in home runs (10), RBI (66), 3B (5) and BB (39). In 2009, had a career high in SB (8) and OPS (.716).
