• Carlos Beltran returned to the starting lineup on Friday after being limited to pinch-hit appearances since Monday. Beltran tested his right knee with pregame sprints and told the staff that he felt good enough to return to the outfield. This will be Beltran's first start since he was named National League Player of the Week.

• Lance Berkman was out of Friday's lineup, not because of any ailment, but because of his career numbers against Dodgers lefty Ted Lilly. Berkman is 3-for-31 lifetime against Lilly.

• With Brandon Dickson summoned to join the Cardinals, an opening was created in Triple-A Memphis' rotation. That will be filled by lefty John Gast, who has been promoted from Double-A Springfield. Gast went 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA in eight starts with Springfield. He allowed 38 hits, walked 13 and struck out 41 in 51 1/3 innings.

• FOX Sports Midwest will have its annual "This One's For You" telecast next Friday to recognize the country's Armed Forces. Troops across the world will be able to watch the Cardinals-Phillies game on the American Forces Network, and FSM will conduct interviews with troops at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan. Several families of those serving will be at Busch Stadium for the game.
