OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed third baseman Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 13 with a strained right groin, the club announced today. To take his place on the roster, the A’s recalled infielder Adam Rosales from Triple-A Sacramento.
Inge batted .227 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 11 starts at third base with the A’s after signing as a free agent April 30. He began the season with Detroit and was 2 for 20 (.100) in nine games before he was released April 26. Inge is batting .188 in 20 games overall. This is his second stint on the DL this year as he began the season on the Tigers DL with a strained left groin. He is eligible to be reinstated May 28.
Rosales joins the A’s for the second time this year. He was on the Opening Day roster in Japan and appeared in one game as a defensive replacement at first base. Rosales did not have an at bat and was optioned to Sacramento April 2 before the regular season resumed. The 28-year old right-handed hitter was batting .277 with two home runs and 19 RBI in 36 games with the River Cats. He appeared in 32 games at shortstop and four at second base.
