PHILADELPHIA -- Jaime Garcia is not the only Cardinals prospect who will have to miss the upcoming XM All-Star Futures Game, though he's surely the only one who's happy about it.
Garcia, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, will not pitch in the game for the best reason of all -- he's in the Major Leagues. In addition, outfielder Colby Rasmus will not be able to play for the United States team because he is injured.
Taking Garcia's place on the World team will be right-handed reliever Fernando Salas, who is enjoying a breakthrough year at Double-A Springfield. Salas has a 2.76 ERA in 38 appearances, with 69 strikeouts and 11 walks in 49 innings.
Rasmus has been placed on Memphis' disabled list with a groin strain, though the organization does not believe Rasmus' condition is serious. According to John Vuch, the Cardinals' director of Minor League operations, Rasmus should return shortly after the Triple-A All-Star break, which coincides almost exactly with the Major League All-Star break.
