DENVER, CO – The following statement from the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club is regarding the passing Rockies former Chairman, President and CEO Jerry McMorris today.
“The Colorado Rockies family is deeply saddened by the passing of Jerry McMorris,” said Rockies Owner/Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Monfort. “I believe It is fair to say without the efforts of Jerry there may have never been Major League Baseball in Denver. He will be greatly missed by us all.”
Along with current Rockies Owner/General Partner Charles Monfort, McMorris and Monfort’s group purchased controlling interest in the club on September 2, 1992. McMorris was immediately named Chairman and CEO of the Colorado Rockies. McMorris held the title of Chairman, President and CEO until 2001, and remained a member of the Rockies ownership group until 2005.
