Minor League Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced Lake County INF FRANCISCO LINDOR has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for April 30 – May 6. The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

Lindor, 18, has hit .379 (11-29) with a 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI and 5 SB in his last 7 games while posting a 1.040 OPS (.419 on-base pct, .621 slugging pct.).  On May 2nd at Dayton, Lindor went 3-5 with 2 R, 2B and a SB in a Captains 5-3 win.  For the 2012 season, he is batting .299 (38-127) with 22 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers and 11 RBI while stealing 11 bases in 15 attempts.  He is currently 1st in the Midwest League in at-bats (127), 3rd in hits (38), 4th in total bases (56), T-5th in runs (22) and T5th in stolen bases (11). 

Lindor was Cleveland’s first round selection (8th overall) in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Montverde Academy High School in Florida.  He entered the 2012 season as the #1 ranked prospect in the Indians organization according to Baseball America.  Francisco will play his entire first professional season at 18 years of age and doesn’t turn 19 until November 14.
