With their three doubles on Saturday -- two off the bat of Billy Butler and another by Gordon -- the Royals had doubled in all 26 games this season and 42 straight, dating back to last season. They extended the streak to 43 with Butler's first-inning double off Phil Hughes on Sunday afternoon.
Royals catchers broke out from a pair of cold streaks on Sunday. Humberto Quintero homered in the seventh inning, snapping an 0-for-18 slide, and Brayan Pena delivered a pinch-hit single in the ninth, breaking up an 0-for-13 skid.
Francoeur's spectacular throw to nab Curtis Granderson at third base in the sixth inning of Saturday's game was his fifth outfield assist of the season. He ranks second in the Majors, trailing only Arizona's Jason Kubel, who has six.
