LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers will start their third homestand of the season Monday as they take on the San Francisco Giants (Monday, May 7 – Wednesday, May 9), the Colorado Rockies (Friday, May 11 – Sunday, May 13) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (Monday, May 14 – Tuesday, May 15). Giveaways during the homestand include a cooler bag presented by Time Warner Cable Monday, May 7, a Mother’s Day tote bag presented by Murad Skincare and Mother’s Day Walk Around the Park Sunday, May 13, and an Orel Hershiser bobblehead presented by Coca-Cola on Tuesday, May 15.
As part of the Dodgers pregame ceremonies on Monday, May 7, Guggenheim Baseball Management (GBM) Partner Earvin “Magic” Johnson has invited and will escort to the field Jackie Robinson’s teammate, friend and Dodger legend Don Newcombe and Robinson’s widow, Rachel. Newcombe will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 7:10 p.m. game against San Francisco.
“I am here thanks to the sacrifices made by Jackie Robinson, Don Newcombe and others of their era that overcame similar hardships and turned challenges into opportunities, creating a Dodger legacy that endures today,” said Johnson. “Our debt to Jackie for his impact on society, and athletes like me, can never be repaid. It will truly be an honor to stand with Rachel and Don as I join the Dodgers in our mission to make Jackie proud by doing everything in our power to help this iconic team return to its rightful place atop Major League Baseball.”
This homestand marks the first under the Dodgers new ownership team. The GBM team – GBM Chairman Mark Walter, GBM Partner, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Stan Kasten, GBM Partner Earvin “Magic” Johnson, GBM Partner Peter Guber, GBM Partner Todd Boehly and GBM Partner Bobby Patton Jr. – was introduced to Los Angeles at a Dodger Stadium news conference Wednesday.
