Royals in the Community

The Royals open the upcoming homestand against the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox by hosting the annual Baseball Equipment Drive to benefit the Alta Vista Charter School Baseball Program.  The homestand also features a 50/50 Friday fundraiser to benefit the Arthritis Foundation.

In addition, Royals Charities partners with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to host a series of concourse auctions.  Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the MLBPAA's youth baseball clinics for kids.  Below is a listing of the club's upcoming community efforts for May 3-9.

Thursday, May 3 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
- Baseball Equipment Drive presented by the Baseball Tomorrow Fund and Rawlings - Together with second baseman Chris Getz and pitcher Greg Holland, the Royals partner with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund and Rawlings on the eighth annual Baseball Equipment Drive.  Royals Wives will be outside of the Diamond Club and Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level to collect new and gently-used equipment from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Cash donations will also be accepted.  Fans making a $40 contribution will receive a baseball autographed by their Royals player of choice (while supplies last), while fans making a $10 donation will receive a photo card autographed by their Royals player of choice (also while supplies last).  Proceeds benefit the Alta Vista Charter School Baseball Program.  www.royals.com/community
- MLB-Royals All-Star Scholars Announced - As part of the All-Star Summer community initiatives, MLB and the Royals announced the creation of the MLB-Royals All-Star Scholars program.  The first five students selected to receive scholarships through the program will be announced at the Shining Star Awards Celebration taking place at the Kauffman Conference Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.
- Royals Charities and MLB Players Alumni Association Concourse Auction - Royals Charities partners with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association for an exclusive silent auction featuring memorabilia from current and former MLB stars.  The auction, which runs from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning, will be located on the third base side of the Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level.  Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the MLBPAA to help offer free youth baseball clinics for kids.

Friday, May 4 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
- 50/50 Friday - For every Friday home game, volunteers sell raffle tickets from the time gates open until the end of the fourth inning.  One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds.  The other half will be divided between Royals Charities and a local Kansas City charity.  The Arthritis Foundation will be the designated charity for Friday's fundraiser.  www.royals.com/5050
- Budweiser Walk-Off Hero - The Royals and Budweiser salute a member of the military by providing complimentary tickets and recognizing the honoree with a special in-game recognition.
- Baseball Equipment Drive presented by the Baseball Tomorrow Fund and Rawlings - The Baseball Equipment Drive continues as wives collect new and gently-used baseball and softball equipment outside of the Diamond Club from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Fans making a $40 contribution will receive a baseball autographed by their Royals player of choice (while supplies last), while fans making a $10 donation will receive a photo card autographed by their Royals player of choice (also while supplies last).

Saturday, May 5 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.
- Meet Hosmer at Kansas Sampler - First baseman Eric Hosmer will meet fans and sign autographs from 11 a.m. to noon at the Kansas Sampler, located at 9750 Quivira across from the Oak Park Mall in Lenexa, Kan.
- Perez to Appear at Guadalupe Center's Cinco de Mayo Community Fiesta - Catcher Salvador Perez will meet fans from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the Cinco de Mayo Community Fiesta.  The event is hosted by the Guadalupe Centers, Inc., located at 1015 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez in Kansas City, Mo.

- Royals Troopers - The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program presented by John Deere.  The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.

Wednesday, May 9 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
- Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children.  These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments.  Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Royals and 610 Sports Radio Team Up for "Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly" Radio Show
Fans can learn about all of the club's community and charity efforts by tuning into the "Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly" radio program.  The one-hour show, which is scheduled to air every Sunday at 10 a.m. throughout the season, can be heard on 610 Sports Radio, the flagship station of the Royals.  In addition to the club's community outreach efforts, the program will highlight upcoming player appearances and provide a season-long radio tour of the Royals Hall of Fame.
