Cooper was fined for not having a catcher ready to warm up the pitcher after the seventh inning last Saturday. Brad Ausmus was on second base when the inning ended, and home-plate umpire Eric Cooper apparently took exception to Cooper not immediately sending out someone to warm up Geoff Geary.
"The guy that wrote me up said I refused to send someone out to warm the pitcher up," Cooper said. "The pitcher's on the mound; Ausmus just made the last out or he's on base, and he's coming in and getting his stuff.
"I think my comment was, 'There's nobody available here.' At the time, there was no one. He said I refused to send anybody. I didn't refuse. There was nobody available. What am I supposed to do?"
