FLUSHING, N.Y., April 24, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced the team has placed righthanded pitcher Mike Pelfrey on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to April 22 and recalled lefthanded pitcher Robert Carson from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League. Carson will wear #73 and is expected to be available tonight.
An MRI conducted this morning on Pelfrey at the Hospital for Special Surgery revealed swelling in his right elbow. A course of treatment is pending a final diagnosis and possible second opinion.
Pelfrey, 28, was 0-0 with a 2.29 ERA (five earned runs/19.2 innings) in three starts this year.
Carson, 23, was 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA (two earned runs/5.2 innings) in five games with Binghamton this season. He has allowed eight hits and two runs, with one walk and six strikeouts.
The lefthander made 24 starts and one relief appearance for the BMets in 2011.
