Goedert wins Minor League Player of the Week award

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians today announced Akron INF/OF JARED GOEDERT has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the week of April 16-22. The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and will be announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League Baseball season. All players from the Tribe's minor league affiliates are eligible for the weekly award.

Goedert, 26, appeared in 5 games during the week, batting .556 (10-18) with 2 doubles and 4 walks. He recorded a multi-hit game in each of the 5 contest, including a 2-for-2 night with 2 runs scored and 2 walks on April 21 at Reading. For the 2012 season, he is batting .404 (21-52) with 5 doubles, 1 home run and 4 RBI in 15 games (.558SLG/1.066OPS). His .404 average and .508 on-base pct. currently lead the Eastern League as he has reached base safely via hit or walk in all 15 games this season (1.066OPS is 2nd in the EL).

Goedert was the Tribe’s 9th round selection in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Kansas State University. In 2010, he led all Indians farmhands in HR (27), was 2nd in RBI (83), T-3rd in hits (136) and 5th in runs (80).
