Escalona, 25, will be looking to make an appearance in the Major Leagues with Colorado for the third-consecutive season. In 19 career Major League games, the right-hander has no record with a 1.71 ERA (31.2 ip, 6 er), 11 walks and 16 strikeouts. Opponents have batted just .188 (21-for-112) against him. The Venezuela native began the 2012 season in Triple-A Colorado Springs as the Sky Sox closer. In four games and 5.0 innings pitched he had two saves and did not allow a run. In eight Minor League seasons, Escalona is 18-15 with 12 saves and a 3.67 ERA (345.1 ip, 141 er). Escalona owns an active 8.0-inning Major League scoreless streak from 9/9-24/11.
Chatwood, 22, was the youngest player on the Rockies Opening Day roster. The right-hander has made four relief appearances this season, going 1-0 with one save and a 5.63 ERA (8.0 ip, 5 er), one walk and 7 strikeouts. Chatwood was acquired by Colorado on 11/30/11 in exchange for catcher Chris Iannetta from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 31 Major League games/25 starts, Chatwood is 7-11 with a 4.80 ERA (150.0 ip, 80 er), 72 walks and 81 strikeouts. Chatwood has made just five career starts at the Triple-A level, all coming with Salt Lake City in 2010-11.
