Phillies to host championship games for local colleges

On Tuesday, April 17, local colleges will compete at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies' Bill Giles Invitational and Liberty Bell Classic championship titles. Both games are open to the public. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the First Base Gate ticket windows. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. Parking is free in Lot P, located off Darien Street.
On Tuesday, April 17, at 3:30 p.m. the Wilmington University Wildcats will take on the West Chester University Golden Rams in the championship game of the Bill Giles Invitational at Citizens Bank Park.

The semi-final round of the 12th Annual Bill Giles Invitational began Thursday, March 22, with the Wilmington University Wildcats defeating the Philadelphia University Rams, 3-0. The West Chester University Golden Rams defeated the University of the Sciences Devils on Wednesday, March 28, at West Chester University 16-6 to advance to the finals.

The University of Pennsylvania Quakers will play the St. Joseph's University Hawks in the 21st Annual Liberty Bell Classic championship game at Citizens Bank Park, on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m.
Semi-final action took place on Tuesday, April 3, where the University of Pennsylvania defeated the LaSalle University Explorers, 9-4, and St. Joseph's University defeated the University of Delaware Blue Hens, 4-3. This will be the first time that both teams advanced to play in the championship game at Citizens Bank Park.
The Liberty Bell Classic was created in 1992 as a way for local Division I colleges to compete against each other in a tournament and have the opportunity to play on a major league field. For more information, please visit
