Twins Claim Clete Thomas Off Waivers From Detroit

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed outfielder Clete Thomas off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.  Thomas did not have any plate appearances with the Tigers this season, but appeared in three games before being designated for assignment on April 12.

He has a career batting average of .253 (99-for-391) with 22 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 48 rbi in 145 games (2008, 2009 and 2012 – all with the Tigers).

To make room for Thomas on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Scott Baker to the 60-day disabled list.

Thomas, who will wear uniform number 36, is expected to join the team in time for tomorrow afternoon’s game vs. the Texas Rangers.  The Twins will make a corresponding roster move prior to adding him to the 25-man roster.
