White Sox announce activities for Opening Series

WHAT: Chicago White Sox promotional highlights, giveaways and ceremonial first pitches for the first home series of the season.  A limited number of standing-room-only tickets for the home opener on Friday, April 13 are now available at whitesox.com, the U.S. Cellular Field ticket office and through Ticketmaster. 

The White Sox home opener and Saturday’s game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.  WGN-TV will air the finale of the three game series vs. Detroit on Sunday.  All three games will be broadcast on WSCR-AM 670 (The Score), the White Sox flagship radio station, and 97.5 FM ESPN Deportes, the Sox Spanish-language radio affiliate.

Ceremonial first pitch by Grammy award-winning artist and actor COMMON

National Anthem by national recording artist Jack Ingram

(Pre-game ceremonies begin at 12:30 p.m.)

Grammy award-winning rapper, actor and South Side of Chicago native COMMON will throw out a ceremonial first pitch for the White Sox home opener at U.S. Cellular Field.

COMMON will host the annual Awards Gala and Fundraiser for The Common Ground Foundation, his non-profit organization, Saturday, April 14 at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago.  This year, the organization will honor Harry Belafonte.

Academy of Country Musicaward winner and Big Machine Records artist Jack Ingram will perform the National Anthem.

All fans in attendance will receive a 2012 White Sox magnet schedule, courtesy of U.S. Cellular.

Saturday, April 14, 3:10 p.m. vs. Detroit

White Sox Knit Bomber Hat giveaway for first 20,000 fans

Ceremonial first pitch by Kierra Franklin, representing the Girl Scouts of America

Kierra Franklin of the Girl Scouts of America will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.  Franklin is a Girl Scout Ambassador in troop 60823 of Chicago and currently working on a Gold Award project, developing a career camp for middle school-aged girls.

The first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive a White Sox knit bomber hat.

1972 Throwback Sunday and Kids Day

Ceremonial first pitch honoring Jackie Robinson’s legacy

The White Sox will pay tribute to the legacy of Jackie Robinson with a special ceremonial first pitch honoring four generations of African American contributions to baseball.  Sox players, coaches and the manager all will wear No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson

The game also marks the first Sunday home date that the White Sox will wear red pinstriped throwback uniforms and red Sox caps, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1972 White Sox team.  The White Sox will wear the throwback uniforms during every Sunday home game this season.

Sunday also marks the first Kids Day of the season.  Activities include a pregame autograph session and kids will have the opportunity to run the bases after the game (weather permitting).  Tickets are available for $1 for kids 13 and under, with a fully paid adult, at the U.S. Cellular Field ticket window on the day of the game (subject to availability).
