Cubs Select The Contract of Right-Handed Pitcher Rodrigo Lopez

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Rodrigo Lopez and outrighted infielder Luis Valbuena to Triple-A Iowa.

Lopez, 36, begins his second season with the Cubs after going 6-6 with a 4.42 ERA (48 ER/97.2 IP) in 26 appearances (16 starts) last year.  He was acquired from the Braves on May 26, 2011 for minor league left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter and Lopez signed a minor league contract with the Cubs this past offseason.

A veteran of all or part of 10 major league seasons, Lopez is 81-88 with a 4.82 ERA (720 ER/1,344.1 IP) in 253 major league appearances (215 starts) with San Diego (2000), Baltimore (2002-06), Colorado (2007), Philadelphia (2009), Arizona (2010) and the Cubs (2011).

Valbuena was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from Toronto on April 4.
